November 17, 2011
Meeting was called to order at 7:10 p.m.
Present were: Capt Steve Reasonover for Chief Ledbetter, Dr. Nafziger,
Councilman Plant, John Griscom and Chief Sivley
Mayor Melton was out of town, Bill Morrison and Irving Nash were not in attendance.
There were no guests present
Mr. Griscom made a motion to approve the August 18, 2011 minutes, motion was seconded by
Dr. Nafziger and the motion carried unanimously.
(a) No Parking Zone On Cherokee Dr. Recommendation was made to the City Council at their
regular meeting and was approved. This project has been completed.
(b) A request for a four way stop sign at the intersection of Longmeadow Drive and
Longmeadow Way. The was discussed at the last meeting and recommendation was pending
results of traffic survey. The traffic survey was reviewed and a motion was entertained to
approve the installation of the stop signs. There was no motion received. Request died as a
result and therefore is not recommended at this time.
(c) A No U-Turn sign has been requested at the intersection of Chalkville Mt. Road south
bound at the intersection of Service Road. This request was discussed and carried over for
further discussion, investigation and review. Chief Sivley reported that after several hours of
observation on different hours at different times there was only 1 u-turn observed and it was
conducted in a safe manner. Motion was entertained for recommendation to the council to
install "No U-Turn" signs at this intersection. Request died as a result of no motion.
(d) The timing of the traffic signals on Chalkville Mt Road was discussed. These signals are
maintained by Jefferson County DOT. Mr. Simpson and the Mayor will be contacted to see if
the timing of the lights can be reviewed and adjusted. Chief Sivley reported he had not
followed up with the Mayor to learn the status and the Mayor was out of town and unable to
attend the meeting. This item was carried over for the next regular meeting.

(a) A three way stop sign and/or speed cushions was requested for Magnolia Heights Drive at
Azalea Trace. Residents contend the speeds on Magnolia in conjunction with the limited sight
distance make exiting Azalea Trace a safety risk. An extensive traffic survey was conducted
and determined sight distances exceeded AASHTO minimum recommendations. The request
was discussed. John Griscom made a motion to recommend installation of three-way stop
for the request was denied by a unanimous vote.
(a) Charles Buckles with RedFlex Traffic Solutions was at the Previous Council workshop and
made a presentation regarding Traffic Light Photo Enforcement. The committee discussed the
proposal to the proposal to the City Council.
(b) Following the discussion of the speed cushions on Magnolia Heights Councilman Plant
stated as the City was resurfacing street he wanted to look at replacing existing speed bumps
on Linden and Highland with speed cushions as well conducting traffic studies to determine
priorities for installation of speed cushions in other areas. He is going to discuss this with the
Mayor and Council and report back.
