Trussville
Police
Special Response Team

It is accepted throughout the Law Enforcement community that the presence of a highly trained, highly skilled police tactical unit has been shown to substantially reduce the risk of injury and loss of life to citizens, police officers and suspects, when the team is called upon to assist in the resolution of critical incidents. The function of the Trussville Police Special Response Team is to provide highly motivated personnel with special equipment and training to prepare them to respond to critical incidents, and contain the situation, and /or bring it to an acceptable resolution. These situations can include snipers, barricaded suspects, hostage situations, high risk arrests/search warrants, any situation involving terrorists, dignitary protection and any other situation as deemed necessary by the Chief of Police.

The  Special Response Team is commonly referred to as the "SRT".  The SRT of the Trussville Police Department is incorporated for use in critical situations where the patrol forces may not be adequately equipped or trained to intercede.  The SRT is an all-volunteer unit, and its members receive no special pay or other incentive to serve.  Team members must meet a superior standard for fitness, firearms skill, and and professionalism, just to apply for a position on the team.  Team members must pass yearly evaluations with even higher standards to maintain their position on the team.

The SRT is supplemented by the Designated Marksman Team, (DMT) which is a unit of highly trained marksmen who serve as perimeter and counter-sniper personnel.
