Youth Services Division
Youth Services deals with all juvenile and Trussville City School related cases. These cases vary from crimes committed by a juvenile suspect, to crimes committed against a juvenile. Misdemeanor and Felony crimes committed by juveniles are screened and prosecuted in Jefferson County Family Court. Youth Services is also responsible for community notification of registered sex offenders residing within the City limits of Trussville. The School Resource officer program, in short, is law enforcement officers, educators, students, parents and the community offering law related educational programs in the schools in an effort to reduce crime, drug abuse, violence and to provide a safe school environment. The School Resource officer program is under Youth Services.
Sgt. Jeff Bridges supervises Youth Services and School Resource Officers. Sgt Bridges came to us from Thomasville Alabama; he attended the Alabama Police Academy in Bay Minette during the time he was employed by the City of Thomasville. In 1994 he accepted a Police position in Trussville. Sgt. Bridges has been assigned to Youth Services/School Resources since 1998. His direct number is 661-4018.
Lawrence McKelvev (Officer Mac). Officer McKelvey has been with the Department since 1982. In 1994 he was assigned to teach D.A.R.E. at the Hewitt Trussville Elementary School. In 2003 Officer Mac retrained as a School Resource Officer, in 2008 he graduated the Advanced School Resource Officer training conducted by NASRO, National Association of School Resource Officers. Ken Findley. Officer Findley has been with the Department since 2004. Assigned to Patrol for the first three years he then requested retraining to become a School Resource Officer. Ken completed the basic SRO training in 2007 and has graduated advanced training in 2008. Ken reports for duty at the Hewitt Trussville High School, 228-3536.
